MET GALA 2015: China: Through the Looking Glass

The Met Gala, formally called the Costume Institute Gala and also known as the Met Ball, is an annual fundraising gala for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute in New York City. It marks the grand opening of the Costume Institute's annual fashion exhibit. Each year's event celebrates the theme of that year's Costume Institute exhibition, and the exhibition sets the tone for the formal dress of the night since guest are expected to choose their fashion to match the theme of the exhibit.

The 2015 exhibition — also the costume theme for the evening — is called “China: Through the Looking Glass.” According to the museum’s announcement, it “will explore the impact of Chinese aesthetics on Western fashion and how China has fueled the fashionable imagination for centuries.”

The red carpet quiz: This Refinery29 infographic probes the reader's financial situation and personal connections to discern whether they are up to snuff
The state of affairs: The quiz concludes that shelling out a hefty amount of cash is likely to land you a spot on the guest list, but if you don't have the dough then you better look at other options

As for us mere mortals, we just have to wait and see the pictures from the event. I can’t wait to see how the designers’ outfits translate into Chinese influences and how the stars make it their own.
